King Leopold's Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror, and Heroism in Colonial Africa

I feel complicit in this. As a child seeking adventure I poured over Henry Morton Stanley’s African accounts, in my naiveté never once questioning the murderous and racist nature of them (in similar manner to my enjoyment of the equally violent and racist albeit fictional adventure stories of Robert E. Howard). The horrific end result of those adventures is laid bare in this beautiful and riveting book.
